What is the meaning of life?

The Bible said it simply: “God create the world in six days and on the seventh he rested”.  That’s what Jews and Christians believe.  Other faiths grow up different disciplines.  Then science and philosophy offer altogether alternative scenarios.  The eminent scientist Stephen Hawking proposed-as fact-the incontrovertible theory of the Big Bang in the cosmos, which would knock all other theories into a cooked hat.  But most people do not understand quantum physics—or quantum anything come to that.  There is mystery and they are happy with that: I am happy with that.  Most people know in their hearts when they have committed a sin.  Most people regret that.  I am not a particularly “religious” man: I don’t go around taking about the Holy Ghost but there is a pattern of goodness that I believe in.  Yes there is mystery and the “meaning of life” is beyond one’s grasp.  So I just go on and do my best.  Jesus Christ is not some myth, this life and death are fact: historical facts, recorded in Roman documents, and witnessed by others.  For me the meaning of life means doing my best to live by his principles and trying to work out, or tweak out, some sense of it all.  Then when I die I shall understand everything.  Or maybe nothing at all.
