endev42 - documenting the meaning of life
Over the last couple of years, hundreds of celebrities have contributed to endev42 by answering life biggest question, “What is the meaning of life?”. As noted on the main celebrities page, some answers were quite lengthy, while most were zen-like. It was also interesting to see the high number of responses that were religious in nature. Conversely, some celebrities openly stated they had no idea what was the meaning of life. But whatever the case, at the time of writing this blog, the site has over 24,000 combined years of wisdom from some of the greatest minds of this century.
Below are some FAQs about this project.
Why was this project started?
At some point in our life we all wonder what is the point of our existence. Do we live in a meaningless universe, and if so, can we create our own meaning? Or is meaning merely bestowed upon us by some mysteriously omnipotent being from above? Throughout history the meaning of life has changed, it has evolved, and it will continue to do so in the future. endev42 is dedicated to documenting this change. As technology advances, gene-editing is realized, artificial intelligence is introduced, and virtual worlds become the norm, it will be interesting to see where we are headed as a species. If we are unable to determine what gives life purpose, what gives us meaning, and to define the very nature of life itself—the future could be a terrifying place for all life.
Why are there categories and why do some celebrities not match their specific category?
The categories were meant to be a fun addition that only loosely correspond to their achievements in life. So don’t take them too seriously. If you think an individual is miscategorized feel free to tell us in our contact page.
Are the questions searchable? For example, if I want to find all the responses about love, how can I do that?
We are working on building in better search functionality in the future. For now, we are still in the development stages of the project. So at this time, outside of Google, the responses are not searchable yet.
Some of the responses have typos, why is that?
We kept the responses as near to what the celebrities said as possible. This includes varying spelling of words, names, etc. Only in limited cases was a typo corrected. With that said, it is also certainly possible we made a few typos as well. If you see something out of line, let us know on our contact page.
What is next?
Well, this particular project isn’t over, and it will hopefully continue to go on for many years. Also planned is a lot of other great content in 2019 and beyond. But you’ll have to wait and see just what that is. If you like the site, we encourage you to support us here.
